Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Suffolk-based haulier 11 Taylor-Balls has slashed its fleet by 50% and laid off half its drivers, one of whom is taking the firm to a tribunal over redundancy pay.

Eight drivers have been made redundant and their vehicles sold. The cut-backs are an effort to reduce operating costs and improve the profitability of the company which, according to managing director Bryan Taylor-Balls, is in financial difficulty.

He says that by dropping the

routes to and from Felixstowe Docks and concentrating on local work, "the company will carry on, but in a smaller way".

The dispute with the redundant driver centres on his claim for money in lieu of notice. The company is also witholding his redundancy entitlement, holiday pay and week in hand.

Taylor-Balls says: "We will go to the tribunal and make a stand over the time in lieu, although I am taking advice on whether we should pay him his other money meanwhile."
