Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Ihavejust read your article and comments by Alan Cole of TDG (CM 18-24 August).

I am pleased subcontractors are kicking back, to dispel once and for all this myth, the total absurdity, that it is small hauliers which are rate cutting. The TDG/ Courage contract shows this.

Cole says he hasn't set his stall out as a rate cutter. Could he explain to me how from its Grangemouth depot ie John Russell's, a return load to Belvedere. Kent is £186 with 60-day payment?

No wonder Inter-City is losing out at these prices. C S Johnson &otter, Lincolnshire.
