• Keynsham-based Western Freight has specified its latest F90 MANs to be able to carry 44 tonnes in anticipation of weight limit changes. The six 22.422FVLT twin-steer tractive units are fitted with "road friendly" air suspension on the second steer and drive axles.
While the plated weight of the front axle is at its 7,100kg design limit (MAN offers higher weight options), the rear bogie can be uprated from 16.7 to 17.5 tonnes. Expecting legislation giving a minimum 9hp/tonne Western Freight specified a 420hp Euro-1 engine.
The trailers are Crane Fruehauf lightweight tri-axle trailers with Boalloy curtainsided bodies plated at 38 tonnes. They have a design weight of 40 tonnes and also on air suspension.
