• Hire firm Practical Car & Van Rental has introduced a novel in-house insurance scheme for its fleet. Royal Insurance will cover Practical's fleet of 3,000 vehicles against third party claims in the normal way, but own-damage accident claims will be met by a central insurance fund.
This fund is supported by fixed contributions paid by each of the 200 Practical outlets.
The firm estimates that it will save 15% on normal insurance costs.
