PTO facilitate the production of its 1 0 Series commercial vehicles in developing countries, Ford of Britain is now able to offer reinforced plastics cabs. These have been developed in a joint venture by Ford and the Reliant Motor Co. Ltd., of Tamworth, who have supplied the necessary moulds and designs. Export orders of £2m. have been received by Ford for various D Series models with the plastics cab; all of them will be exported in CKD form.

After completion in May, the first cab

has been intensively tested by Ford. The design is based on a construction.eonsisting of outer and inner skins with an air space between. With this type of structure the plastics cab is about 300 lb. lighter than a similar steel cab and the inherent features of reinforced plasticsnon-corrosive and easy repair—make it particularly attractive for overseas use, quite apart from the inexpensive tooling involved and a reduction in the heavy rate of duty levied on sheet metal products in some countries.
