AU1.11:RS in Scunthorpe are to start a plan to protect goods carried by road in the city and its immediate neighbourhood. From today (Friday) a Scunthorpe vehicle observer corps will be in operation, run by members of the Scan-, thorpe sub-area of the Road Haulage Association. It is hoped that eventually other organizations concerned with road transport and with vehicle security in general will add their support to the scheme.

Chief Supt L. Kirby, Lincolnshire Constabulary divisional headquarters. Scunthorpe, has promised the full co-operation of the police, who have taken an active part in making the necessary arrangements.

As soon as a goods vehicle with or without a load is reported stolen, the police will get in touch with the corps leaders, who will arrange to pass the information on to all members. Cars will he sent out with driver and observers to patrol pre-arranged areas in an endeavour to track down the vehicle and contact will be made with the .police as soon as a stolen vehicle is spotted.
