ik/fINISTRY OF TRANSPORT vehicle 1Y1 examiners carried out spot checks on 13,651 heavy goods vehicles during August at roadside sites and at the premises of firms concerned.

Of these, 6,146 (45 per cent) were found to be defective. Prohibition notices issued with immediate effect totalled 1,351 (10 per cent) and with deferred effect 4,795 (35 per. rent). These percentages are lower than for July, when 13 per cent had immediate GV9s and 43 per cent had delayed notices.

Lighter Livery as Safety Measure

THE Norwich-based Pointer Group, at present operating 500 vehicles, is to change the fleet colours to light cream and pale green.

This new livery replaces the existing dark yellow and green currently in use. It is felt that this change will enable the vehicles to he seen more clearly.

PROPOSALS SUBMITTED FOR DEALING WITH LEAKS

Dsorosms for dealing with accidents 1 involving bulk liquid tankers carrying dangerous loads have been submitted to the Home Office by the fire service committee of the Association of Municipal Corporations.

The suggestion is that in addition to adequate marking of vehicles carrying dangerous liquids by road, such vehicles should be required to carry an outfit of thick blankets of inert material such as asbestos/ glass fibre, sufficient to reduce leakage rates arising from any accident.
