Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Bournemouth Corporation has communicated with the Ministry of Transport as to the possibility of assistance from the Road Fund towards expenditure that .might be incurred in connection with freeing or superseding the toll on Tuckton Bridge, but the Minister is unable to entertain an application for a grant towards the corporation's outstanding loan debt.

Irish Bus Statistics.

During the month of July buses working in the Irish Free State operated over 4,461 miles of road, whilst 2,063,000 vehicle-miles were run and 4,193,000 passengers were carried. In addition, 114,000 vehicle-miles were run on cross-border services and 68,000 passengers carried. Increases over the figures for July of 1928 are shown in every case, except that the average passenger receipts per vehicle-mile have gone down from 10.03d. to 9.40d. On cross-border services, however, there was an increase from 9.80d. to 11.18d. In all, 151 compinies were •,perating and their gross receipts were £68,005; 19 companies had receipts of £1,000 and over, 8 of £500 to 1999, 28 of £2,00 to £499, and the remainder had receipts of less than £200.

A Municipal-vehicle Exhibit at Olympia.

• The tramways committee of Morecambe. Corporation has placed a provisional order for a Maudslay 32-seater bus which, bearing the crest and colours of the corporation, is to be exhibited at the commercial-motor show, such provisional order being required to comply with the conditions of exhibition. .

Lubricant With a Long Life.

In our issue dated September 10th, page 103, we gave details of a test of Sternol oil,' grade WW heavy. I response to inquiries we would state that the. vehicle in . which the oil was used was of Austin manufacture. Sternol oils are officially recommended by the Austin Motor Co., Ltd.

A New Trojan Chassis.

Many of our readers may have heard news of a new type of Trojan chassis which is being produced. The leading features are an engine mounted at the rear, transmission providing four speeds forward and the abolition of the punt. We understand that this chassis is only to be used for private-car work. The familiar. Trojan goods vehicles will continue in the present forms, so well kuown to, and popular with, commercialmotor-vehicle users.

Delay in Instituting a New Service.

It was reported at q recent meeting of Annfield Plain Urban District Council that, so far, the London and NorthEastern Railway Co. had failed to start a service between Durham and Annfield Plain in respect of which the issue of licences had been approved. The meet
