YOUR REPLY TO the reader's ...nquiry into reclaiming VAT on ueI bought on the Continent isted the correct documentation 7equired (`You Ask , We Answer', CM 4 October). However, in my Professional capacity I have been :ontacted by many owner-drivers ind small fleet operators who pave tried the DIY approach Nithout success — each of the EU member states has minor lifferences in procedure which nust be followed or the refund n ay be lost.

Much of my experience :oneerns France, which is one of he most efficient countries in .efunding VAT and does so well xithin the EU regulation three n onths — but every detail in the procedure must be adhered to.

Some of my clients like to nake extra savings by purchasing it independent garages or ;upermarkets. In these cases pre-printed 'factures' (invoices) ire acceptable, provided they are :orrectly completed.

If any of your readers would ike more information they are nvited to contact me.
