The New Lowdall Model of 20-25-cwt. Capacity, with Unique 15 h.p. Twostroke Engine LAST week we made the exclusive announcement that Trojan, Ltd., Purley Way, Croydon, was about to introduce a new goods chassis incorporating its latest six-cylinderecl power unit, We are now able to state that this interesting machine will be on view at the forthcoming Show and to give a brief description of its salient features.

The engine employs the same principle as the well-known four-cylindered unit, the cylinders being arranged in pairs. each pair having, a common combustion chamber. How, ever, although the impulses exerted by the two pistons of any pair are simultaneous, the torque is similar to that of a four-stroke, six-cylindered engine, where the six cylinders tire in sequence.

The dimensions of the power unit are 63.5 mm. by 117.5 mm. (2.232 litres) and it is rated at 15 h.p. The simplicity of its design is appreciated when it is remembered that there are only 10 moving parts (not counting the rollers in the big-ends), the twin connecting rods being formed as units. Four plain bearings support the crankshaft. Mounted horizontally at the rear, the power unit occupies the minimum of useful space.

Unlike previous models, the new Lowdall model, as it is called, incorporates a three-speed synchromesh gearbox. This affords overall ratios of 5.3, 10.17, and 18,55 to 1, reverse being 24 to 1. The clutch is of the single-plate type. Transmission is by a propeller shaft, embodying Hardy-Spicer needle-roller joints, and the final drive is an overhead worm with four-star differential.

Another breakaway from earlier practice is the use of internal-expanding brakes of the Girling type on all wheels.

-Measuring, overall, 17 ft: long; the vehiele affords a body space "(interior) of 11' ft. It is built for 20-25‘cwt.

loads. At the rear the platform height (laden) is 3 ft.. whilst the floor, to which access is gained by side doors. is only 1 ft. 7 ins. above ground level: The standard body has a capacity of 200 cubic ft. and the vehicle Weighs 22 cwt., and is thus subject to .a tax of 40.

An interesting feature of the internal construction of this body is that the partition behind the driver, although extending to the roof, is of only half-width. Thus it is easy for the driver to pass through from the cab.

There are no wbeel-arches, Isecanse'of the 3-ft.-high_platform above the, engine, and this, incidentally, in some circumstances, is a, convenient height foi. loading, whilst the Side doors, opening on the 1sft. 74n._ flOor, are handy for other conditions. noth -peif.ures are closed. by roller shutters instead of hinged dObis of the ordinary type..
