Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Siphon, Tools

As managing director of Tiss, I felt compelled to respond to the letter published in CM (10 April) entitled: 'Shock tactics could harm dialogue about the problem of fuel siphoning'.

Regarding Brian Wholey's statement concerning fuel theft by drivers, there is no intention to employ 'shock tactics' in order to promote our anti-siphons. Brian's opinion is based on more than 30 years of personal experience as a driver and, subsequently, co-owner of a haulage firm with myself.

Therefore, unlike other anti-siphon manufacturers, we have experience of the haulage industry, having suffered a number of the problems we now seek to alleviate. Consequently, we feel informed enough to make comments of this nature.

When read in context with the rest of the article about Tiss (CM 6 December 2007 'The Po-Siphon Adventure), the above point is apparent. Highlighting the comment made by Brian in the letter smacks of 'sensationalism' by the authors of the letter.

We fully appreciate the majority of drivers are not thieves. in fact, our 'Impregnable' will protect the honest driver from any suspicion of fuel theft because it is impossible to siphon any fuel once it is fitted. But since the 'Impregnable' accounts for 85% of all our anti-siphon sales, it's clear 'internal theft' is an unwanted consequence of rising fuel prices.

Similar to our fellow antisiphon manufacturers and distributors, we welcome the need for positive dialogue across the industry. In highlighting the possibility of 'internal theft' occurring, we are merely informing our customers of all the methods of fuel theft they may suffer. Ryan Wholey Managing director
