• A meeting of all those involved in cattle markets is to be arranged to discuss the effects of the changes in drivers' hours.
Announcing this in the Commons, Mr Norman Buchan, Under-Secretary of State for Scotland, said the meeting would be chaired by one of his officers and would include Ministry of Transport officials and the NFU.
Mr Buchan spoke of the planned meeting after Mr Hector Monro (Tory, Dumfries) had said that over and above increased transport costs, chaos was being created in farming by the application of the Transport Act.
