1-1. A NUMBER of refinements has been made to the portable hacksaw made by W. Kennedy, Ltd., West Drayton, Middx, who now .offer the Mark 11 version of their machine at £28, the same price as the superseded type. The capacity has been increased and there is now a thermal overload control. A zerocutting edge, by means of which the extreme edge of the vice jaw indicates the path of the saw cut, is incorporated.

The jaw is calibrated in fractions of an inch so that short lengths of material can be cut off without the need for marking. Screws for the blade clamps are placed on the right of the saw, and the frame arm has a handle to enable the release catch to be operated by thumb pressure. A non-powered unit with a pulley sells for £14. Various accessories such as 45-degree vice jaws are offered.

Suction Sander A DUSTLESS belt sander of American tTt make is being marketed in this country by Black and Decker, Ltd., Harmondsworth, Middlesex. It has a vacuum unit which sucks up more than 80 per cent. of all fine dust into a detachable bag. Abrasive belts arc said to last longer because they do not become clogged. Belt speed is 1,600 ft. per min., and the price of the tool is £52 17s., including 10 ft. of cable.

Sponge Vizor A SUN vizor filled with a sponge

plastics is being sold in Britain by Edward Rose and Co. (Birmingham), Ltd., 35 Boldmere Road, Sutton Coldfteld. It is stated that in the event of a collision it would serve to protect the driver's head.

Light Signals

THE Light Hooter is a switch with four connections made by the Key-Leather Co., Ltd., 5 Urswick Road, London, E.9. It is designed for mounting on the steering column and has a lever of appropriate length. This may be imagined as a selector used in the same manner as a gear lever, with spring return to "neutral" being provided from two of the positions.

It is intended that the connections for main and dipped headlamp beams can be joined to the terminals from which there is spring return, thus enabling the driver to flash his lights at night for signalling, as when overtaking. The other connections can be used for any desired purpose entailing continuous employment, such as for a foglamp.

The Light Hooter costs £1 is. It can be used in conjunction with a relay at 15s. 6d. This is a device which will make and break current so that, with the lever set in one of the retained positions, the headlamps will flash intermittently. The driver may then have, the means for manual or autematic signalling with his lamps.

If compressed air is used for cleaning, it is stated, it must be filtered and dried. When lubricating, too much grease can be as bad as too little because insufficient room will be left for circulation.

Charging Batteries I-1 A RANGE of single-circuit battery

chargers varying in price from £21 10s. to £46 10s. has been produced by Legg (Industries), Ltd., Williamson Street, Wolverhampton. Charging current is adjusted by means of transformer tapping switches. The smallest model is capable of charging six cells at 10 amp. and the largest 36 cells at 10 amp. The chargers are designed for use on 200-250v. single-phase ac. supply, or for other supplies at 10 per cent, extra cost.

Back Bolted A UXILIARY driving lamps which may " be fitted in the mountings for front winking-light indicators or side lamps have been produced by Marchal Distributors, Ltd., Brook Lane North, Great West Road, Brentford, Middx. Known as UniVisorims, they may incorporate, as well as the main bulb, a side-lamp bulb, another for the indicator, or all three. Lenses may be either of the foglamp or long-range driving lamp pattern.

These lamps have long bolts at the back, which allow them to be fitted to the radiator grille or through a hole in the bodywork if it is not desired to replace an existing component.

Draw Plane STATED to be capable of doing most jobs otherwise 'entailing the use of a spokeshave or draw knife, a draw plane to incorporate a Surform blade has been introduced by Simmonds Aerocessories, Ltd., Treforest, Glam. It has a heavy body with a convex base, and is designed for use with a pulling action. Control is by the main handle and a curved tip at the front. The tool costs 15s. 6d. whilst replacement blades are 2s. 9d.

60 ft. for £2

AADE in plastics and having a smooth 1-in. bore, a 60-ft. length of lowpressure hose is being marketed by the Goodyear concern complete with reel at £2. It is mainly intended for domestic use but has garage applications. The fittings may be removed so that alternative accessories can be used.
