N6w operating from four sites, Sherwood is optimistic about the future of its new and used truck and van sales. Steve Banner reports.

Iveco dealership Sherwood, based in Blackwell, Derbyshire, aims to boost retail and trade used sales from last year's total of 300 to nearer 350. Part of this rise will come from increased activity at its Sheffield branch where it sells used trucks and vans, as well as from Blackwell —its biggest used site —and other branches in Stoke-on-Trent and Nottingham.

"Used ex-contract Stralis tractor units are starting to come through in growing numbers now," says used sales executive Phil Salmon. "They are being well received by operators — particularly late-plate, low-mileage examples with analogue tachographs, due to ongoing concerns about switching to digital. We're seeing mostly 4x2s and 6x2s at 430hp," he reports."Models at 480 and 540hp are appearing,too, but in much smaller numbers. The Active Space is the most popular cab."

The light CV side of the business is not being neglected, and Sherwood now sells Fiat vans at Blackwell and Nottingham.The firm sells about 1,500 new vehicles a year.

Sherwood has recently made a significant change to its senior management team.After spending six years working for TNT and Hays Distribution, Helen Waterfall, daughter of chairman and managing director Terry Waterfall, has been appointed commercial director. She joins operations director and dealer principal Paul Hemp and finance director David Smith a.
