Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Changes are taking place at the leading retreading companies. Now, with its own 24/7 emergency call centre, Bandvulc aims to launch a range of drive and trailer axle tyres for regional fleets at the CV Show.

Vacu-Lug has taken over UK production of Pirelli retread truck tyres at its Grantham plant. They will still be sold under the Pirelli Novateck banner; Vacu-Lug will be responsible for distribution throughout Britain.

Still with retreads, Bridgestone now owns the Bulldog factory in Bourne, Lines, making tyres under the Bulldog and Bridgestone labels. "We've expanded and updated it with new facilities and machinery," says Bridgestone's Roger Moulding.

All three initiatives spell increased competition for Bandag.

Bridgestone aims to become a more significant force in the European truck tyre market over the next few years. It has a plant in Bilbao, Spain, and is starting construction of a £134m factory in Poland, scheduled to open in 2009, churning out 5,000 tyres a day by summer 2011.
