Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• An innovative skeletal developed by CM Trailer of the Year Awards finalist King Trailers has been delivered to Scottish haulier John G Russell. The Swing-Thru—a finalist in the Special Purpose category—is a point-to-point tool for transferring containers from trains, trailer and flat-floor warehouses; it is targeted at operators who handle around 10 units a day.

The Swing:Thrti features a hydraulically powered crane fitted to a trombone trailer able to carry 20-45ft containers; it has four counter-balance legs. The crane slides along the trailer and is powered by an 80hp Deutz turbo-diesel. The Swing-Thru is not designed for long-haul or delivery work as the cranes obstruct the doors; but it looks ideal for movement into more confined spaces. It weighs 13-16 tonnes depending on configuration, accommodates 20-tonne containers and is ready to operate at 44 tonnes. On site the crane can stack containers two high, taking about four minutes to transfer each container.

Andrew Stewart, sales manager for swing-through products at King Trailers, has a further 10 units in the pipeline over the next 12 months. He says the concept saves time and money compared with a reach stacker, adding that it costs the operator £4.50 per container transfer.

The CM Trailer of the Year Awards will be presented in Birmingham on 21 March. Contact: 01372 841010.
