Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Truck safety experts are warning operators to check their tyres regularly after an Oxford man was killed trying to retrieve a shredded tyre from the M40. Witnesses whose cars were also struck by the tread told an inquest this week that Dr Anthony Jackson appeared to have underestimated the weight of the tyre. He was struck by another car near Ardley as he tried to remove the tread which had just smashed his headlights.

The lorry which shed the tyre remains unidentified but Road Haulage Association and Road Transport Laboratory experts said its driver probably, didn't know he had lost the tread. "If the trailer was unloaded or even loaded it might be very difficult for him to get an appreciable feel on the steering,' says RHA technical manager Bob Stacey. "He might be unaware of it for a while,"
