Only two systems were represented at Bordeaux this week in the demonstrations for tractors. These were—as announced in our issue of May itlth entered by the lvel Agricultural Motors, Ltd., of London, and Messrs. R. WaHut and Co., of Paris. The latter firm holds the French agency of R. Hornsby and Sons, Ltd., of Grantham, but their tractor is known as the Castelin. It is fitted with a to-1211.1). De Dion-Bouton engine, is spring mounted, and has two speeds. A small platform is provided, the load capacity being about iscwt. The weight is i tons unladen, the over all width 5ft. gin., and 220 yards of steel winding cable is
carried. The makers also recommend haulage of ploughs or other implements by means of a pulley block, the tractor being stationary and locked, especially where the ground is very heavy : a pull in excess of one ton can be delivered on the cable. Transmission is by chain, and rear axle steering is employed, and the price of the tractor is A;300. The illustrations which we reproduce show the general appearance of this machine, and the method of using it to haul various implements by cable and pulley. The lvel machines have been described already in our pages, the first published description of the latest production--with the driving wheels inside the frameby this English house being given in the issue of April 27th, page 42. At the time of going to press no detailed report of the demonstrations had come to hand.
