FOWLER WELCH-COOLCHAIN has been granted authorisation for 80 vehicles and 120 trailers at a new 500.000f1 freehold warehouse in Heywood, Greater Manchester.

The company says the site on the Heywood Distribution Park.which it bought for an undisclosed sum, will offer 55,000 pallet storage spaces when it becomes operational in September 2010.

The new facility. which is close to Rochdale and next to the M66. will combine the activities of two smaller facilities in Cheadle Heath, Stockport and Heywood, as well as providing the potential for up to 300 new jobs.

Fowler Welch is recruiting drivers, warehouse and administrative staff for the facility, which will store chilled and ambient goods for food firms.

A statement from the company says: "The board is pleased to announce that Fowler Welch-Coolchain has contracted to purchase a 55.000 pallet capacity distribution centre and warehouse at le) v, ood. near Manchester, to support its continued expansion in the North-West.

-This purchase will double the size of Fowler Welch-Coolchain's national distribution centre footprint to over one million square feet."
