Paul Shone, MD at the familyrun firm, says a key motive for joining a network was to offer customers a wider service while reducing journey times He explains:"We were looking to cut our mileage because there were too ninny wasted journeys; some deliveries were just not cost effective. This was an opportunity to offer our customers a wider range of pallet consignment sizes without us having to pay a fortune for it.The Fortec hub being so close to us was also an appealing factor."

The company also says Fortee's affiliation with Geodis Calbeison offers clients more cost-effective European services.

Shone adds: "We felt our company had been in a static position for a while; we were not losing business, but we were not moving forward. We are hopeful that joining Fortec will win us new customers and more revenue."

He joins from a five-year stint at FedEx, where he was responsible for revenue retention and development across the UK. He has also worked at truck rental firm Ryder.
