Each month we present a star of the used market to see how it could perform for you. Put your hands together for the lveco

Cargo 75E15 7..5-tonne rigid._ 0 ne in three 7.5-tonners on the road today is likely to be an Iveco 75E15. It's a firm favourite with operators and trade alike. Since its second generation launch in 1991 The nation's favourite' has undergone more than a few makeovers to help keep it looking more youthful than Leslie Ash.

It's probably the only current truck product to have had all three Euro emission ratings; it is the backbone of Iveco's sales in the UK and is one of many trucks to see production switched from the UK to the Continent — in this case Italy.

It was eventually replaced in 2003 by the Eurocargo with the Tector engine, but the appeal of the 75E15 is still strong across the board. Rental companies, fleet operators. small distribution companies, own-account business and local authorities — it's probably easier to name an industry that it doesn't have a hand in, lik e... erm... cave dwelling.

The volume of 75E15s in the used market tends to be dictated by who's offloading what and when.At the auctions earlier this year supply more than matched demand but its popularity still led to decent prices.

Today buyers from the trade and private sectors are having to compete and pay more than before as supply has slowed down.

Independent traders generally seem to have more than one or two on the forecourt and approved Iveco dealerships always have a good choice in stock.

On the road

Easy to drive with a good turning circle, it's ideal for -U-turns and swinging around tight yards. Handling is excellent, although large boxes and curtainsiders do suffer from cross-wind turbulence. Decent six-cylinder engines will maintain momentum easily enough as well as coping with hill climbs:143hp equates to 19hp/ tonne pulling power via simple and pretty decent five-speed boxes. •
