UK operators wit associate the Mentor name with truck and trailer axles: few will know that Arvin was a major North American exhaust system manufacturer in its own right before the two companies merged in 2000.

ArvinMeritor says its Plasma Fuel Reformer is just one of a 'suite' of exhaust after-treatment solutions it's developed including active and passive regenerating particulate traps for cars and commercials and its own SCR system.

The company claims: "ArvinMeritor has SCR technology that's the equal to any in the world. We have a contract to supply SCR systems to Iveco as well as another major European commercial vehicle manufacturer" It will also supply particulate filters to a European light truck maker in 2005. And Tom Gosnell, ArvinMeritor's Commercial Vehicle Systems business group stresses: "We have a fully developed SCR system as well as a longer-term hydrogen--enabled NOx trap under development so we have options to meet out OEM customers needs, whichever way the North American market goes on the NOx issue."
