A MANCHESTER builder's merchant has escaped an inquiry without penalty after a TC congratulated it for a "huge amount of effort" to put its house in order since a maintenance investigation last November.
North Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell was satisfied that the company, Hall & Rogers, had taken "prompt and effective" action to sort problems out and that there was nothing more that it could have done.
The company, which holds a licence for 35 vehicles and three trailers based at depots in Manchester and Liverpool, had been called before the TC following convictions and the issue of a number of prohibition notices.
After vehicle examiners had confirmed that no prohibitions had been issued since the latest maintenance investigation in November. the TC said a huge amount of work had been done by the company, which had recently been taken over by the Grafton Group UK Plc. to find out what had gone wrong.
The fact that the company had put its house in order well before receiving the letter calling it to a public inquiry was a significant factor, she concluded.
