Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Our drive in the revised FH12 also provided the first opportunity to try out Volvo's electronically controlled disc brakes (EBS), which for the time being will only be available as part of the "chassis concept" package. A 4x2 version is expected in the UK early next year, with 6x2 and 6x4 models following later.

Volvo has bucked the trend in disc design by opting for a solid item, claiming more control of heat expansion and improved strength compared with ventilated discs, while still giving adequate cooling under all conditions. Naturally Volvo EBS incorporates ABS, but it also includes TCS traction control and a wheel speed matching facility which allows dilllock engagement under any conditions. On the road, the EBS system certainly provided impressively responsive stopping power. The amount of feel through the pedal permitted easily controlled and progressive braking.

The other significant changes to the FM12 tractor include an easier-to-service front axle with improved steering geometry and a more compact, 105kg lighter, rear air suspension layout with reduced rear overhang. Although the new steering setup gives a very precise feel, it did seem rather nervous with the tall Globetrotter cab in windy conditions, but we'll reserve final judgement until we try it under more familiar conditions.
