• Gloucestershire council chiefs want a crisis meeting with the Department of Transport to discuss an influx of trucks in the county following toll hikes on the Severn Bridge. Tolls have risen 133% since 1991.

This Spring Gloucestershire County Council recorded a 37% increase in truck traffic on to the A40, A48 and A4136.

The authority will (211 on the DOT to introduce traffic calming measures on the county's trunk roads—and it will demand money to repair the extra damage caused by what it says amounts to an extra truck every three minutes on the MO, every five minuteson the A48 and every six minutes on the A4136.

The council is also considering more bans in residential areas to keep trucks on main routes.
