Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Commercial Motor dated June 10 contains Bill Brock's road test of the Bedford CF 220 van, in which criticism is made to a product of our manufacture.

Our TL802B toggle latches have recently been fitted to the CF series engine cowls, replacing the Dzus quarter-turn ejecting fasteners used since the van was introduced. This latch is a standard product of ours, to which Vauxhall Motors fit a plate and strike of their design.

The main point at issue is your-comment "did not appear very robust-. This particular latch has a working tension strength of 135kg, the

ultimate being 225kg, per latch. The curved link, a feature unique to Dzus ensures that the latch always remains under tension, Latches with flat links relax after going over-centre and would be prone to rattle in applications such as the one in question.

Quick-release is a benefit to the user or person servicing the vehicles, as there are no loose parts which can be lost or not replaced.

GRAHAME PAGE, Marketing Manager, Dzus Fastener Europe Ltd, Farnham, Surrey.

• We accept your point. These toggle latchs must be stronger than they look. But as Bill Brock said, they are a bit fussy to use in this application. — Editor.
