from July 5-8. For ease of reference, those exhibits which come within the scope of "The Commercial Motor" are dealt with in alphabetical sequence according to the name of the exhibitor. "The Commercial Motor" will be displayed by Temple Press Ltd. on Stand 256 C.

The remaining two machines will be Ford 10-cwt. chassis, one of which will be shown with a steel pick-up body by Anthony Hoists, Ltd., the body of the second being of the utility type. Of the Fordson Thames machines, all of which have semi-forward control chassis. the 5-toriner will be shown with a Perkins P6 oil engine and Anthony tail-board loader. This loader .operates by hydraulic power, the oil pump being driven from the power take-off of the gearbox. Of the two Fordson Thames 2-tonners, one will be shown mounting a lorry body, and the other a van body. A three-horse-box body -by, Lambourn Garages, Ltd , on the 4-ton chassis, and a cattle-truck body by Alfred

Ltd., on the 3-ton chassis, cover the range of the Ford Thanks models to be shown.

• In the range of equipment to be exhibited by Lines Trailer Co., Ltd., Ashby Ville Road, Scunthorpe, Lines, will be the treble-tip, a three-way tipping trailer having a single-action hydraulic ram. The capacity of the body with dimensions of 9 ft. by 6 ft. 6 ins, is three tons. It is_•cif the two-wheeled type, the draw-bar of which communicates the towing stresses direct to the axle. It is provided with a quickrelease coupling. Another serviceable type to be shown is the Boston, which is a four-wheeler of 5-6-ton capacity. The body size of this piece of equipment is 15 ft. by 6 ft. 3 ins.

Low Loading In the Lolode 3-ton transporter, which is to be shown by the Low Loading Trailer Co., Ltd., Bedfordshire. on Stand 124 G, farmers will find a piece of equipment that should make a strong appeal. This trailer has a loading height of only 14 ins., and as the four wheels, which are close-coupled, are independently sprung, and the suspension system is of the anti-rolling type, the equipment is particularly suitable for the conveyance of loads having a high centre of gravity, such as a tractor. A recently introduced Lolode 225-gallon tumbler trailer the tank of which can be rotated through an angle of 90 degrees, will form one of the six pieces of equipment to be shown.

Tippers to meet most needs on the farm will be featured .by Markham Traction, Ltd., 28, Eccleston Street, London, S.W.1, on Stand 361 C. New models will be found in the three-way hydraulic tipping trailer which is of 3-ton carrying capacity. A patented feature of this piece of equipment is the method of controlling the tip and locking the sides of the body from the tractor seat. Another new model, built on the lines of this concern's Super Commando model, but built • with a low-loading height, will also be available for inspection.

As in past years, fire protection arrangements have been placed in the hands of Merryweather and Sons, Ltd.. Greenwich High Road, London, S.E.10. The equipment available for fire duty will include a motor fire-engine having a 400 g.p.m. • Hatfield reciprocating pump. This machine is arranged for drawing a Victor trailer-pump with a capacity of 500-600 g.p.m. as an

auxiliary unit. This combination is representative of a number of new postwar outfits being constructed by this well-known maker of fire-fighting equipment_ (Stand 314 L.)

The six-vehicle exhibit to be staged by Morrie Commercial Co., Ltd., Adderley Park, Birmingham, on Stand 197 F will include, at one end of the scale, the new 10-cwt. van, and at the other a 4.25-litre oil engined 5-tonner. There will also be a 5-ton petrol engined chassis on which will be mounted a Jennings cattle-carrying body. The other vehicles to be shown will be a 15-20-cwt. van having a capacity of 235 cubic ft., a 25-30cwt. lorry, and a 5-cubic yd. tipper equipped with Western hydraulic gear. The latter chassis is powered by a 3.75litre petrol engine.

The hydraulic One-man Loader, which is used for elevating sacks of corn and the like to the level of the lorry floor, will already be known to a great many visitors to the Show. Some of the outstanding features of this device are that it is portable and, therefore, can he brought to the most convenient point for loading, and that it is self-contained. Lifting is carried out by hydraulic means, the power for driving the oil pump being derived from a Villiers or Jap air-cooled engine of 3 h.p. The platform can be

cf4

raised from ground level to the floor of a lorry in five seconds, and it is claimed that 60 sacks can be loaded on to a vehicle by one man in 30 minutes (" One Man" Mechanical Lorry Loader Co., Whittlesford, Cambridge, Stand 264 B.) The exhibit of the Pressed Steel Co., Ltd., Cowley, Oxford (Stand 140 A). will consist of a number of mobile exhibition stands, one of which will feature in its body a complete range of PrtestcoId refrigerators. (A description of this vehicle was given in "The Commercial Motor." May 27.) Visitors will have an opportunity of inspecting Land Rover chassis equipped with various types of body on Stand 65 G. The Rover Car, Ltd., Meteor Works, Solihull, Birmingham, is showing two standard models, another with

Brockhouse trailer

attached; a fourth will be seen driving a sawbench, and a fifth operating a power driven mower. in a recent test of this machine "The Cornrarcial Motor" proved that all the claims made for it in respect of its speed and general utility could be substantiated. It can be as readily used to power a sawbench as an arc welder.

In the case of the tipping trailer which will be shown by the Salop Trailer Co., Ltd., Midland Carriage Wmks, Old Coleham, Shrewsbury, on Stand 454 E, attention is drawn to the fact that the hydraulic tipping gear which incorporates a two-stage ram, is self-contained on the trailer chassis, being operated by a shaft running directly from the power take-off on the tractor. It is claimed that the system is more efficient than when tipping is carried out from the hydraulic system of the tractor. Farmers operating Ferguson tractors will be specially interested in a 50-cwt. trailer to be shown by this maker, as it incorporates a hydraulic system designed for operation with Ferguson machines.

In addition to two complete vehicles, one with 20-ft. platform body and the other with a cattle-carrying body, Sentinel (Shrewsbury), Ltd., on Stand 195 F, will feature a number of power units. One of these will be the standard Sentinel four-cylindered engine part-sectioned to show its general construction. An outstanding feature of Sentinel chassis is that the power unit is mounted on its side, behind the cab.

Taskers of Andover (1932), Ltd., Waterloo Iron Works, Andover, Hants, will feature a number of types of trailer and semi-trailer on Stand 155 A. These will include twoand fourwheeled types, with both fixed and tipping bodies, the latter having sorew hand-operated hydraulic, or power operated hydraulic means for tipping. In cases where screw-type gear is fitted, a ready conversion to manual hydraulic operation is found in the Newton hydraulic power jack which will be shown fitted to certain Taskers models. The load-carrying capacity of the trailers to be shown ranges from 2-6 tons.

Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., Luton, Beds., will be showing eight versions of Bed ford chassis mounting a number of types of body from a light delivery van on a 10-12-cwt. chassis, to a doubledeck cattle container on a 5-ton chassis. The latter machine is of the dualpurpose type in that when the cattlecarrying body is removed it leaves a platform for general-purpose haulage work. On a Bedford 3-4-ton longwheelbase chassis will be shown a Vincent Streamline three-horse box having separate padded and matted stalls. A _feature is that it is easily convertible for the carriage of a mare and its foal. Convertibility is also a feature of a general-purpose farmerswagon body that will be shown on a Bedford 2-3-ton chassis. This machine can be used either as a drop-sided out• fit, or with platform body. It is provided with an easy-loading ramp at the rear. (Stand 193 F.)

One of the bodies to be shown by Vincents of Reading, Ltd., Station Square, Reading, will be this concern's Streamline three-horse box which can be converted for use as a mare and foal stud box. In addition to the three seats provided in the driver's compartment, there is seating accommodation in the rear of the vehicle for four grooms. (Stand 590 1.)
