Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

the Austin Gipsy Mark IV has been developed by Mayflower Automotive Products Ltd. These free the front wheels from the transmission when the vehicle is being used in two-wheel drive. so eliminating drag in the front axle drive.

When fitted on the front wheels the hubs can be set to " fixed " or " free" as desired, by using a small key supplied with the kit. By fitting the components the makers state that fuel consumption is substantially improved—depending, of course, on how much the vehicle is used in two-wheel drive and the speed at which it is driven.

It is claimed that there is a considerable reduction in tyre wear on the front wheels, acceleration is improved, steering is made lighter and noise from the front transmission is reduced.

The hubs, which are easy to fit, are made of light alloy with steel drive gears. They require little maintenance and can be transferred from one vehicle to another.

The makers can, additionally, supply wheel discs to accommodate the hubs.
