Glasgow Single-Decker Modified: Modifications are being made to the experimental Alexander-bodied Leyland Panther for Glasgow Corporation Transport. When exhibited at Earls Court last September the vehicle seated 42 passengers; it is now being converted into a 54-seater, with room for 20 standees, and is expected to enter service in the New Year.

Sunderland's Panther Cub Chassis on Show : The chassis of the first of three Leyland Panther Cub single-deckers for Sunderland Corporation Transport was on show to the public in Union Street, Sunderland, on Christmas Eve. The chassis is going to Marshall of Cambridge (Engineering) Ltd., for the fitting of 45-seat coachwork.

Threat to Bus Services: Corporation bus services at Chesterfield, Derbys, are threatened by a shortage of 50 drivers and conductors, the transport manager. Mr. A. Burrows, warned last week. He added: " We are working on a shoestring staff and if any sickness develops services are bound to be disrupted." The town at present has 450 drivers and conductors.

Stockton One-day Strike: Stockton-on-Tees Corporation but undertaking was brought to a complete standstill on Christmas Eve by an unofficial strike of the platform staff, The action was a protest against a reported national wage offer of 7s. a week extra for municipal busmen.

Forced On To Buses: Newcastle City Council added to the transport department's Christmas headache when it decided to close .17 city centre car parks to vehicles between 8 and 10 a.m. and 4 and 6 p.m. Using power granted under an Act of 1865. gking him power to control traffic when he considers it to be in the public interest, the Lord Mayor decided that the ban would stay in force from December 8 to 31. Closing the car parks was intended "to reduce the number of vehicles on city centre streets, and those entering or leaving car parks, during the peak periods ".
