NORTH!

By our Northern Correspondent Eric Strongitharm Oswaldtwistle.

Following the shock retirement of chief engineer Arthur Parabolics, "a wind of change" is sweeping through the Spagthorpe Motor Company design office. The old drawing boards on which such famous models as "The Huntsman" and "The Incinerator" were created, will shortly be replaced by state-of-the-art computer design consoles. Sales director, and son of Sir Jos Spagthorpe, The Right Hon. Nigel Spagthorpe says: "The younger designers kept trying to put their tea mugs on the drawing boards and they naturally slid off. So we have boldly invested in new CAD facilities which will be the envy of Europe's top truck makers." The new equipment is currently in temporary storage at Oswaldtwistle's "House of Phun" video arcade.

SMC has promoted Darren Acne from the loading bay to be senior project leader. "He spends all his time with computers anyway," says Spagthorpe Junior. "And he has already got a number of ideas for new models, including a delivery truck that can move sideways when parking, called 'The Space Invader'."

FLASH: Local engineers from Oswaldtwistle Gas and Electric Company are still hunting for the cause of the sudden blackout in the area, but they believe it emanated from the Spagthorpe Motor Company's "Iron Works."
