Ford is recalling more than 25,000 new Transits to check for potential problems with wheel nuts and steering couplings.

The recall covers 20,388 Transits from the start of production in September 1999 to September 2000 after It was found the surface of wheel nuts may not be providing sufficient grip to maintain torque.

A further 5,676 units built between 16 June and 18 September last year are being called in to double-check riveting which might cause steering coupling failure. The company says:" Neither of these actions involves sudden loss of vehicle control -there have been no reported accidents or injuries."

Checks and any necessary work will be carried out free of charge and on a while-you-wait basis if preferred.
