• Carrier Transicold has set up a dedicated subsidiary called Carrier Advantage to deal exclusively with the direct-drive sector and increase its British market share.

Research carried out by Carrier Transicold found its poor delivery times, faltering installations and confusing product range gave market pacesetters Hubbard and G AH the lead in the UK's fastest growing reefer sector.

Sales and marketing director Mark Howell reports that Carrier has invested 1200,000 in stock to guarantee 48-hour delivery. It has also standardised installation, trained 20 dedicated engineers and re-organised the product range.

He stresses that the cost of setting up Carrier Advantage has been taken "en the nose, with no extra cost to the customer".

Carrier Advantage will run alongside the trailer and truck arm. It has been launched as a UK-based operation but the concept is being put forward to mainland Europe.
