OAD and rail objections-to what was described as a " unique service" were withdrawn at Bridlington on Tuesday, when the objectors were told that there could, by the nature Of the service, be no abstraction of traffic from other sources.

Trans-European Pallet Services (G.B.) Ltd.,' of York and Hull, was granted its first application by the Yorkshire Licensing Authority, Major F. S. Eastwood, for an artic, to carry the collapsible pallet container developed by the company, which was launched three years ago, for the Continental export market. Mr. J. H. Tait, managing director, said . that the advantage of a pallet -container was that it eould be collaksed on the return voyage so taking up less deck space. The pallet was a success already but it was expensive and the company was getting a lot of handling that was not quite up to its standard. At the moment the Hull manager of TransEuropean or his assistant was having to travel to factories and ports to supervise the loading of the pallet. But if TransEuropean could train its own vehicle personnel it could give a more economic service.

Mr. K. D. Dyer, Hull branch Manager of the Holland Steam Ship Company. one of the shipping interests supporting the application, said that there could he no competition with non-collapsible rail containers as the latter were only allowed on shipping lines in which the railways had an interest.
