Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

at a few p.s.i. above atmospheric and later a figure of 55-80 p.s.i. is given. In dealing with the function of the piston in a simple two-stroke engine, the statement is made that the upper edge of the piston controls the opening and closing of the carburetter port to the crankcase, whereas, of course, it is the lower edge.

To say that a cylinder-head gasket can be used tveo or three times after it has been fitted with jointing compound or gold size must be news to practical mechanics. As most engines have their cylinders and crankcase in monobloc construction, the statement that " engine cylinders are generally tested hydraulically before assembling on the engine" seems to be dated information.

In referring to the treatment of a forged crankshaft, the author says: "The bearings and crankpins only are machined." The word " bearings " should read 'journals."

Some other misleading passages I quote without comment: "The hightension coil is a separate unit bolted to any convenient part of the engine" . . . single-cylindered engines are "now employed on motorcycles only" . . . "an interesting two-stroke engine is that fitted to the Trojan light car" . " a flywheel is usually attached to the crankshaft, in the case of oneand twocylinder engines."

Wherever the name Kadenacy is used it is incorrectly spelt: there are many cases where b.h.p. is meant but h.p. is used.

It is unfortunate that such an otherwise useful book should contain so many loose statements. P.G.T.
