REPRESENTATIONS are being made to the Government by the British Travel( and Holidays Association for increased fuel for Motorists and coach operators during the holiday season. Mr. James Forbes, deputy chairman of the Association, said on Tuesday that Britain was hoping this year to earn £190m. in foreign currency from overseas visitors.

Some hotels were, however, gravely concerned about the effects of fuel rationing on British holidaymakers, for whom adequate arrangements were being made. abroad.

NEED FOR STAGGERING IN LONDON EMPHASIZED

1 NFORMATION supplied on the workinghours of persons employed in the West End and City of London showed that the need for staggering was even greater than had previously been thought. This was stated last week by the Committee for the Staggering of Working Hours in Central London, which was set up by the Minister of Transport in November.

Of some 2,000 big employers in the area who had been asked to supply the times when their workers started and finished work, 60 per cent, had so far replied. Out of the nearly 300,000 employees concerned, 96,500 finished at 5.30 'p.m., 19,000 at 4.45 p.m., 61,000 at 5 p.m., 42,000 at 5.15 p.m., and 15,000 at 5.45 p.m.

CO-ORDINATION CONFERENCE

APROPOSAL by Sir Theodore Pritchett, Conservative leader of Birmingham City Council, for the co-ordination of passenger transport in the West Midlands is expected to be discussed at a conference nextmonth. Birmingham City Council have sent invitations to neighbouring authorities, the railways and Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd. The -proposal was reported in The Commercial Motor on January 18.

BIGGER TRAINING CENTRE t education and training division 1of Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., Luton. has been moved into a 30,000-sq.-ft. building providing twice as much space as the previous premises. The new centre can accommodate 350 pupils. There are 39 full-time instructors. The workshop, which covers 20,000 sq. ft. of floor space, is equipped with a comprehensive range of modern machine tools and other plant.

INNER ROAD WORKS WORK will start this month on the VY inner ring road in Birmingham. The Minister, of Transport has given permission and the Government will contribute £704,384 towards the cost of the first section from Suffolk Street along Smallbrook Street to Queen's Drive. This is a 75-per-cent. grant. The section will take about 18 months to complete
