AN appeal by . Hill and Sons (Botley and Denmead),Ltd., Botley, Southampton, against the South Eastern Licensing Authority's refusal to increase their fleet at Reading by six vehicles on A licence, was resumed before the Transport Tribunal in London on Tuesday. Earlier proceedings were reported in The Commercial Motor on December 28.
Mr. D. L. McDonnell, for four of the six respondents—Amey's. Transport (Oxford), Ltd., and G. Cannon and Sons, Ltd., both of Abingdon, and
Crapper and Son, Ltd., and H. Curtis and Sons, Ltd., both of Oxford—said that Hill's business at Reading had been built up on hiring.
Mr. J. Amphlett, for the British Transport Commission, who 'erealso respondents, said that it was only with great reluctance that Hill's had based their vehicles in Reading at all. They had wanted the• fleet based at Botley. -The traffic cited in support of the application was not genuine Reading traffic. He submitted that any extra work in the area should be done by British Road Services.
Mr. J. Marshall, for Cropper and .Colthrop Transport, Ltd., Thatcham. the other respondents, said there was no shortage of transport in the area. Hill's were complaining of difficulty in obtaining vehicles, hut there was evidence that they had been offering lorries to other concerns.
The hearing continued on Wednes. day.
