TWO new models, a four-wheeler and a three -axled twin steering chassis, have been introduced to supplement the E.R.F. range of overseas 'vehicles. Like other E.R.F. export models, both the new chassis have Westinghouse compressed-air braking equipment and Gardner 6LW oil engines developing 112 b.h.p. at 1,700 r.p.m.

The four-wheeler, which is available in four wheelbases (8 ft. 7 ins, for a tractor, 11 ft. 3 ins, for a tipper, 12 ft. 6 ins. for a medium-length vehicle, and 14 ft. for a longer model), has a fivespeed direct-drive-top gearbox and a worm-driven axle of 8i-in. centres. It is available with 11.00 by 20-in. tyres, of 12-ply and 14-ply rating, affording gross loads of 12-13 tons. 'Equipped with a trailer it can operate at a gross train weight of 20-211tons.

The six-wheeler, with twin steering axles, has a similar gearbox and rear axle, but the wheelbase is 17 ft. 2 ins. It is equipped for a gross load of 14*151 tons, according to the tyre ply rating.

IN the absence of a statement of the

Government's intentions towards road transport, the national council of the Road Haulage Association, at its meeting last week, was unable to reach a decision on any important point of principle. The proceedings were largely routine, A report of the deputation which waited on the Minister of Transport to clarify the Association's proposals on denationalization was received.

Resolutions passed at the Torquay conference, last October, were received from the committees which had been considering thein. It was stated that, wherever possible, action had been taken on them. Representations on others would continue to be made to the proper quarters, I.T.A. JUBILEE CONGRESS

TO celebrate the 25th anniversary of its foundation, the Industrial Transport Association has made the following arrangements for a silver jubilee congress in London: June' 13, morning, annual general meeting, Charing Cross Hotel; afternoon, a paper on a transport subject and a visit for women to the Cadby Hall factory of J. Lyons and Co., Ltd.; evening, dinner-dance, Criterion Restaurant. June 14, coach trip and a visit to a place of transport interest during the morning and afternoon; theatre visit in

the evening.

NEW Lo.T. GROUP

ANEW group of the Institute of Transport is to be formed to meet the needs of St. Helens, Warrington and Prescot. It will function for the time being under the aegis of the Merseyside section. Mr. H. Edgley Cox, general manager of St. Helens Transport Department, has been elected chairman of the provisional committee.
