The New Rawlings Halfdrop Window Has Several Notable Features
ANEW half-drop window, known as the '` On Guard "—Inverse Type, has recently been produced by the Rawlings Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Larch Road, London, S.W.12. Of simple and straightforward design, a feature of the window is the manner in which all parts subject to wear may be adjusted or renewed in a few moments, without removing the window from its frame and with the use of no other tool than a screwdriver.
The new window is similar in principle to the well-known standard " On Guerd " type, with the exception that the control is on the top rail instead of the guard rail. This makes for an easier and more positive action, and as, in opening the window, support is always given by the hand beneath the centre control, the exact amount of opening required is easily obtained.
The operating mechanism for the pawls is contained within the centre control on the top channel, and adjustment or replacement of the springs can be carried out in a few moments without disturbing the window.
The locking pawls are constructed in two sections, the body being of manganese bronze, whilst the pawl tip is of hardened steel, being quickly detachable and attached to the body by a single screw. A further feature is the manner in which the weathering
and anti-rattle rubber mounted on the guard rail may be quickly replaced. An opening in the guard rail enables the rubber to be withdrawn, and a new piece threaded in, a cover plate secured by two screws sealing the opening. This is clearly shown in the accompanying illustration.
