Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A Powerful Tire Pump. Simms Motor Units, Ltd., of Percy Buildings, Grease Street, Rathbone Place, W., markets a useful and powerful tire pump, which is the subject of one of our illustrations this week.

It is designed to clip on to the running-board of the van, or other similar suitable position and is operated by means of 4:1-and-fro strokes of the hand lever. It is substantially but simply made, and is supplied complete with a long piece of flexible pipe and a pressure gauge suitable for any pressure up to 150 lb. per sq. in„ and each stroke of the piston displaces 36 cubic ins, of air.

An important consideration is its compactness, and the small space occupied by it when folded up ; so disposed, it only requires a space of 12 ins. by 4 ins. by 6 ins., which is a matter of consideration having regard to the comparatively small sizes of toolboxes.• Vix Waterproof Dressing for For reasons of economy of material and of outlay, as well as to conserve the energy of workers for employment only on business of national importance, it is advisable that the utmost wear must be got out of clothing.

An item of importance during the winter, and particularly, in view of the inclement weather we are suffering just now, is waterproof covering for drivers and all kinds of transport workers. It is generally admitted that oilskins such as are used by sailors are the best waterproof clothes for . such purpose. After a time, however, these materials lose their wet-resisting properties to a certain extent. In view of what we have stated. in the opening paragraph of this notice, it is, therefore, of particular interest to remember that these properties can be renewed at a very low cost.

We have lately been retouching some of our own 'outer garments with what is described as Vix waterproof dressing for oilskins, and it has proved to be in every way a satisfactory material for the purpose. The dressing is applied with an ordinary paint brush, and given time to dry. Successive coats may be applied in exceptionally bad cases ; as a. rule, one coat suffices for a time.

This dressing is ortalnarle hi all colours, to suit any type of waterproof material, from the Vix Oil Co., 22, Newgate Street, E.C., and is cheap, a half-pint can costing is. 6d., larger quantities pro rata.

A New Petrol Gauge.

An ingenious petrol gauge has been brought to our notice. It is designed by Mr. IL G. fiedderwick, of 53, Bothwell Street, Glasgow, and consists of a tube, which is fitted in the tank, containing a float attached by an endless band which runs round pulleys at the top and boftom of the tube. On to the endless band is attached the graduated gage, formed of a material unaffected by petrol, and this is so placed in relation to the float that it indicates through the glass dome at the top of the instrument the actual amount of petrol present in the tank.

Rotax Horns.

It will be remembered that a short time ago on these PEWS we described a few of the specialities of the Rotax Motor Accessories Co.. of Rotax Works, Willesden Junction, N.W. Incidentally, we gave the company's late address at Great Eastern Street, instead of that above, which is the correct one.

One of our illustrations this week is indicative of a line of accessories in which this concern specializes to an eaual extent with lamps. We refer to horns for commercial vans and vehicles of all kinds. There are several types marketed at varying prices. Of those which we saw, however; that in which we were most interested is the one shown on this page. It is neat, substantially made and, owing to the fact that a. portion of the single turn is carried inside the horn, requires less effort to clean, and occupies less space than usual. It is fitted as standard with a bracket which allows of the horn being placed in any desirable position, and at the price of 23s. 6d. in brass, or 27s. ed. ebony black, this horn is good value for the money.

To those who prefer a. more elaborate fitting, others with one; two, or three turns, and with extension pieces and special types of bracket. may be acquired at prices accordingly. It is interesting to note that thebulbs fitted to these horns are of English maks and are substantial.
