The intemet is now a major tool for auction houses to keep in touch with their customers. Manheim Auctions has revamped us site and added some little extras.

INFORMATIVE websites updated on a regular basis are fast becoming a major clearing house for used CVs. Auction houses with regular sales have cottoned onto this as a way for end users and traders alike to check out what's on offer.

Suzanne Harris, general manager for product development at Manheim, reports that the company spent a year developing the site using feedback from buyer and seller forums.

"We particularly worked closely with our dealer customets, most of whom use us to both buy and sell. 'Me new service is not a traditional website in the onlinebrochure sense, but a serious interactive business tool which really keeps pace with the continued technology evolution.

"Our customers increasingly want instant access to all parts of our business, whether that's to search for and buy vehicles, make payment for vehicles purchased, order from a huge range of services, orjust keep in touch with market prices and other intelligence."

Harris reckons the new site meets the demand from those who use it, and suggests that Manheim has taken it a step further:"It's designed to

make buying and selling vehicles easier for our customers.

-It also sets new standards in the way the internet is used in an increasingly sophisticated remarketing environment and underlines Manheirn's commitment to using technology to bring buyers and sellers together in more efficient ways."

Manheim has improved its search engine, with more information readily available than ever before and direct links into online bidding. For example, the site includes a 'watch list' service that allows the potential buyer to highlight a vehicle. He will then he notified by e-mail when it is up for auction, and, if he wishes, place a bid online via CyberAuction and Manheim's Simulcast. These link buyers into live auctions across the country. Live images and the auctioneer's commentary are all connected to a remote bidding facility on the dealer's PC.

The new CyberLot Plus system enables customers to make use of a 'buy now or bid' feature. Manheim has also incorporated a personalised home page. and buyers are able to access up-to-date sale prices of light CVs. •
