Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Karen Miles • The Home Office is to publish a marque-by-marque league table of stolen trucks. The research will also provide the first information on: • The numbers of trucks stolen each year; • Their collective value; • Regional blackspots; • Circumstances in which vehicles are taken.

Preliminary results will be available next May, followed by a full report in the summer.

The Police Research Group of the Home Office will analyse data on truck theft: in the new year it will send questionnaires to theft victims. The survey is designed provide greater detail about the circumstances of theft in a bid to identify the risks. Until now truck theft has been tackled at a local level.

The research is being handled by the Home Office for a multi-agency body. the Lorry Theft Sub-Committee. This committee was set up in March 1994, chaired by the head of Scotland Yard's international organised crime branch. It includes representatives from the police, customs, hauliers and truck manufacturers.
