THE PIRELLI calendar, first created in 1964, suspended in 1974 when ideas ran out and revived last year, concentrates on a different aspect of nature from Dunlop's production and gives fashion far more prominence.
It is the distillation of 1,200 breathless shots behind the scenes of a fashion show by Norman Parkinson, doyen of the genre. He describes it as his "anti-Penthouse offering." It is truly said that those who live in penthouses should not throw stones, but Pirelli's peep into 1985 is, in Kenny Everett's immortal words, "all done in the best possible taste".
The blurb speaks of "a collection of clothes, millinery, jewellery and footwear ... united by the common theme of Pirelli's P6 tyre tread pattern." Five exotic models almost wear the clothes and if one's attention tends to stray from the P6 imprint, it is simply that the singer transcends the song.
