THE diesel engine manufacturing business continues to suffer from a 30 per cent worldwide over capacity according to Ray Carrell, Perkins Engines' director of marketing and planning.

Speaking at the unveiling last week of two projects which increase the level of automation at Perkins' Peterborough plant, Mr Carrell, referring specifically to the 30 to 300hp automotive diesel engine sector said that "an annual manufacturing capacity of 9m engines is chasing a market for 6m engines".
