The chairman of airline British Midland (bin!) has angered the haulage industry by claiming noise caused by HGVs is a major problem and is not improving. The outburst came during a discussion on Radio 4's Today programme about the prospects of airport expansion plans. Sir Michael Bishop referred to HGV activity close to airports, suggesting that noise from such vehicles continues to be a problem.
UK marketing director for OAF, Tony Pain, is shocked by the chairman's claim. "Twenty of today's trucks make the same noise as one 20-year-old truck." he says, adding that modern tractors produce no more than 80dB(A),
