Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Not worth talking to

Why is it the government no longer sees fit to consult with our industry before landing us with yet more change or legislation that will affect our livelihoods?

Last week's announcement that the Traffic Area Network and Vehicle Inspectorate were to merge on April next year was hardly an April Fool—especially for those involved in the organisations who knew nothing of the change before it was announced to Parliament, For a government which is forever telling business they must consult with employees before making change, they are making a pretty poor job of the task themselves.

It's not the first piece of proposed legislation we've had sneaked in through the back door without any consultation. Witness the recent amendments to both the Police Reform Bill (CM 25-31 July) and the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Bill (CMI3-19 June). It's not good enough. It's not good enough for the road transport businesses affected by these moves. It's not good enough for the people who are directly affected by these changes but have no opportunity to respond to them. And it's not good enough because we are supposed to live in a democratic society and if this is the way the government is intent on pursuing its aims, then it's quite dear that we don't. So, just prepare yourself for more unexpected, unhelpful and undemocratic legislation changes. You have been warned
