Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MI In the early 80s the 1PTE formalised a recommended code of practice regarding tipping stability.

It defined stability as a measure of the side slope angle that a fullyladen, fully-tipped vehicle (rigid or artic) can withstand without any wheel lift occurring.

As a guide to tipper buyers, the IRTE's code categorised the following minimum performance standards: • Category B status is where such vehicles are capable of tipping safely on firm, level surfaces with a minimum side slope angle of 5.0°

• Category A relates to those doing so on unmade, uneven ground, with side slope angles of 7.00.

The code also mentions that tip-and-side-slope-angle indicators are desirable, but these are still not commonly used.

What is clear is that operators should not be treating the codes as some kind of "target" to aim for when tipping on uneven or soft ground! Rather they should be seen as a safety margin in the event of any sudden shift in vehicle stability when discharging on unfamiliar sites.
