Gordon Pfeiffer, 49, a Canadian, succeeds Geoffrey Ellison, who moves to Detroit, as Chrysler UK's director of sales and marketing. Mr Pfeiffer was previously deputy md, Chrysler South Africa.

Lord Rootes, president of the Institute of the Motor Industry since April 1973, has given up his duties with the IMI on his doctor's recommendation.

Patrick J. Turley, formerly senior clerk at the Reading branch of Pickfords Removals, has succeeded W. G. Griffin, who has retired, as Northampton manager. Obituaries

We record with regret the deaths of John Hutchinson and J. J. Loftus.

Mr Loftus was a haulage contractor in Ennis, Co Clare, Republic of Ireland; his family had been in business in the area for nearly a century and were delivery agents for Guinness.

Mr Hutchinson, 74, was a director of John Hutchinson & Son Ltd of Dunfermline, Fife. He had previously been managing director for the company, which was sold to Grampian Holdings in the mid-Sixties and re-acquired by his family two years ago.
