TWO new export chassis are to be introduced at the Commercial Motor Show at Earls Court by Atkinson Lorries (1933), Ltd., Walton-le-Dale,

Preston. Model LL.1588 will be an eight-wheeler having a Gardner 8LW oil engine, a unit which develops 150 b.h.p. at 1,700 r.p.m.

Other items in the specification will include compressed-air braking, a gearbox providing an overdrive top, and 11.00 by 20-in, low-pressure tyres all round. The fuel tank will be of 54gallon capacity, whilst the frame will slightly longer than that of the present L.1586 eight-wheeler.

The LL.644LW chassis will also be new to the Atkinson range. In this case a Gardner 4LW engine forms the power unit. The present Model L.644 6-tonner has a Gardner 4LK engine. A gearbox having a 0.75-to-1 top ratio and 6.09-to-1 bottom ratio is to be installed in conjunction with a back axle of higher ratio than that on the Model .L.644. Michelin Metallic B tyres will be fitted.

Other features are concerned with an increase in overall dimensions as compared with the L.644, and a braking system employing hydraulic servo mechanism.

A third chassis, Model L.C.P.L.7464, also for export, will be 31 ft. long and 8 ft. wide, with Michelin Metallic D.20 tyre equipment.

THREE luxury coaches, exported to Holland by Leyland Motors, Ltd., recently left Amsterdam on a 72-day 7,000-mile tour of the Continent and North Africa. The tourists are 90 American students, for whose increased comfort a refrigerator to supply cool drinks has been provided in each coach. Each vehicle is towing a specially designed two-wheeled trailer to carry the luggage.
