POLICE INTERVENE IN BLACKBURN PARADE IT is reported that the police took the names and addresses of operators and drivers when Blackburn Area of the Road Haulage Association staged an anti-nationalization parade in Blackburn last Saturday. The police had objected to the demonstration because they alleged that petrol would be wasted and congestion would be caused.

Our Blackburn correspondent reports that nearly 100 vehicles took part. The names of 200 participants have been Sent to Mr. Shinwell by the Chief Constable, for possible legal action.

the interesting information that £9 13s. (including £4 bs. overtime) was the average wage paid to Government drivers employed in the drivers' pool in London in a recent week. Female drivers received an average of £5 12s., including 18s. 3d. overtime.

BIGGER PUBLIC WORKS EXHIBITION

AN enlarged Public Works Exhibition, covering every phase of municipal activity, will be held at Olympia, London, in November, 1948. It will be known as the Public Health Services, Engineering and Equipment Exhibition

and Congress.

Paid. public admissions to the exhibition that closed last Saturday exceeded those for 1937.

SECOND QUARTER'S EXPORTS SHOW RECOVERY

A CCORDING to the Board of Trade, I-A the value of vehicle exports from the United Kingdom was 02,800,000 in the first quarter of this year and £38,800,000 for the second quarter. These figures compare with a value of £37,700,0013 in the fourth quarter of last year.
