The accompanying illustrations of a number of .picturesque participants in a." Hospital Carnival," which was held at Walthamstow on Saturday of last week, will be of special interest to the readers of this journal, on account of the fact. that the members of the extensive Walthamstow works of the L.G.O.C. were responsible for this part of the display, which was voted to be by far the best in the day's proceedings. By permission of the directors of the L.G.O.C., five motor lorries attached to the Walthamstow works were pressed into ser vice for carnival purposes. As will be seen by our illustrations, willing hands and clever heads evolved processional cars conveying symbolic groups, either of an amusing or an instructive nature. In addition to those members of the works staff who were responsible for the motorlorry display, a large number of other employees took part as cyclists in costume. Altogether 200 of the works hands and staff participated in order to make this affair a success. The whole arrangements, which were in the hands of Mr. G. Best, one of the works fore

men, who was chief marshal for the whole carnival, were in aid of the Prince of Wales General Hospital at Tottenham. The judging for costumes, etc., took place at Tottenham, the judges being Miss Victoria Monks and Mr. Harry Champion. The first tableau prize was awarded to the motor lorry carrying a group representing the Darktown Fire Brigade. The first prize for cyclists was won by Mr. J. Rogers, of the L.G.O.C., who went disguised as a monkey, Much credit is due to all those who worked so hard for this. display.
